Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior official said the incident made him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
